Wood Tools: Design Mysteries Series

Toothpick, Rolling Pin, Mallet

In one week of travel I collected four wooden tools two in New York City and two in Los Angeles. Each is a wonder of technology and sustainability. The 21 Club Bar “stick” came stuck through a delicious 21 Club Bar cheeseburger. I saved it as a memory of that taste. The chopsticks came with a wonderful Bento Box lunch that I shared with my son Christian. The comb was part of the toiletries provided by The Shangri La Hotel in Santa Monica, California. It reminds me of the beautiful Japanese combs I’ve seen over the years. The spoon came from an ice cream shop in The Farmer’s Market in LA. Maybe there is hope if many vendors are going green in an area that needs all the help it can get………..hospitality.

I’m not sure how far we can take this wood tools idea but maybe there’s other examples out there.

Please take a moment and send your favorite wood tool!

Harvey Bernstein just sent an image of The Toothpick! Not only beautifully simple but universally accepted in its many forms.

Harvey’s toothpick Love the wood tools u sent. Here is my favorite tool. A toothpick that after u use it u bend down the thinner blunt end to indicate that it’s been used.
